Use the Sun to Your Advantage

Allowing daylight into your building will lower your monthly utility bills & reliance on the electric temperature systems that generate harmful C02 emissions.

Instead of letting that giant power-plant in the sky make your home unbearably hot all summer, why not use the sun’s energy to improve your quality of life? Learn how right here.

Canada is in a solar power generating boom. When it comes to making the most of the sun’s benefits for your commercial building, solar power is a low-profile alternative to wind turbines, and Canada is in the top ten countries in the world to utilize solar power, whether it’s installing cells on the rooftop, or hooking up to a “solar farm”.

Not all regions of the country are suitable for generating large amounts of solar power, however we all get some sunlight throughout the day. Allowing daylight into your building will minimize your need for electric lighting, effectively lowering your monthly utility bills and reliance on the electric temperature systems that generate environmentally harmful C02 emissions.

Several of the main concerns around letting the sunshine pour in, are the glare, hot spots, and fading of furnishings due to the damaging effects of the sun. Fading furnishings alone can be an excessive financial burden. We wrote about it extensively right here, focused deeply on prevention. Preventing glare is important, too, so it’s critical to control the sun’s rays as they enter the building so that occupants aren’t bothered by excessive glare. We actually wrote an in-depth walkthrough of how to reduce glare in your home, you can see it right here.

Window shades, like blinds or curtains do block direct sunlight, but in doing so they prevent the healthy natural light from entering the room, and also block out the outside view. People who work in buildings with drawn shades or curtains report less overall job satisfaction and studies indicate they have a lower performance than people who have visual access to the outside. We actually wrote in depth on this topic before, right here.

Speaking on the issue of performance, solar window film is designed to prevent annoying glare while still letting in natural light. It blocks 99.9% of harmful UV rays and moderates the temperature of the rooms so the heat and cold don’t fluctuate with changes in the outdoor temperature. It’s the response to noticeable fluctuations in room temperature that cause the occupants to crank the heat or the air-conditioning, causing undue wear on your systems, and high monthly heating and cooling costs.

High-performance ceramic window films moderate temperature in any climate, all year long. The window film technology has been shown to improve HVAC energy efficiency by decreasing thermal heat gain in summer, and heat loss through windows in the winter, meaning happier and more productive occupants. Nano ceramic technology allows you to harness all of the benefits of natural light in your home while filtering out the worst parts of it.
